    Oh Man, During my customer service phase I inadvertantly found myself cold calling people to sell them mortgage refinances. It was in a tiny, dirty, smelly little office crammed in the basement of a building that housed all kinds of corporate horseshit. The training was like two hours long and consisted mostly of "Now you try it". We didn't have headsets, I held the old timey big plastic handset between my shoulder and chin for long periods of time, and broke out in acne as a result. They said I could smoke on the job, but the girl who sat next to me complained about it the whole time. Despite all that, I lasted 2 weeks. Ooooh, fuck that job. Yikes.

      Telemarketing jobs do suck. I had one when I was 17 and lasted three days. I sucked so bad at it too. But have you ever noticed the people who are actually GOOD at those jobs? I hate to say I like pranking telemarketers. They never expect it when they are calling you.

        little known fact. jethrobot and isaac are both really good at the the telephone calling jobs. theyv'e mostly done surveys, though, from what i've heard.

        ps. I've never done that, but one of the worst jobs I ever had involved answering phones. I was the switchboard operator for a phone sex line.

          What was the sex line operator job like? Did you have to worm out of guys what they wanted? I bet you have some great stories!

            my worst job was a telemarketing job i had when i was 23. we were calling for donations for a good cause, but a lady in indiana called our office back and gave my name said i called her a bitch for not donating. i threw my headset at my manager and walked out. not a bad 1st day was it?

            i did not call her a bitch by the way.

              my worst job IS caller center. Worked several projects for this company and as soon as we iron out the bugs they move ti to India or Singapore to save money. Like telemarketers we get callers abusive demeanor all the time. It's hard to understand why someone is yelling at me because something isn't working, and that they actually expect us to be pleasant and help them fix it. I didnt create the problem and I could care less how much it's costing you in business because you only have DSL and didn't feel a backup was neccessary. And no SBC doesnt control the weather, Im sorry your having a Catagory 4 hurricane right now. no we wont be sending a tech out for free in the middle of a storm. Oh, your modem is turned off? sorry your an idiot.
              After 3 years of this and now gettign laid off in 3 weeks becuase Asian offices can pay someone 4$ / day compared to my 10/ HR, I dont care if you even have a problem.

              This has to be the worst job I've ever had.

                THIS is the worst job I've ever had. It pays like shit, I have been outsourced twice, and this time, when my job goes away the company is offering me another position with a large pay cut. So I actually have to pay them to keep my job.

                Worse yet, the new project I'm going to starts off at 35 hours a week (plus the pay cut.) This company is such a bunch of shitwheels that when you go to a new project, your shift choice is based on project seniority, not company seniority----so I'll be junior to FNGs who got hired a month ago.

                We get hot-seated, I have to switch to a new, stinky, dirty cube twice a day. We used to be microsoft tech support but now we do idiot work for some crappy phone company's DSL service (and they are satan---our client is even scummier than my employer!!)

                  Jesus, god! That makes me mad just reading it. I hate, FUCKING HATE, companies that shit on their employees just cause they can. Sound like they are crapping on the people they are hiring to talk to the customers they are crapping on. Does the company produce anything but crap? A giant eating and shitting machine, kind of like one giant parasite with a million tiny little hosts. Kind of the bacteria thing, only in reverse.

                  Yes, I was one of those Microsoft techs too, and in my farewell email more or less told them "fuck you".......lmfao

                  Being outsourced to India twice was enough!
